What do you think of amniocentesis

Ok the doc said my baby might have trisomy 18 possibilities it might have small chances but the sono is normal they said if I do this  amniocentesis  they will see if sure if the baby have this but I read side affect and all and my fam members saying not to do it I just idk what to do I want don’t want to risk anything for my  baby especially it’s my first since I had a miscarriage please help me guys

Will you love your baby regardless? and are you prepared for the posibility that they may be disabled?
I personally wouldn't think my childs life is worth it, I'd rather go on preparing myself for them having a disability.

If the doctor says there’s a chance then yes I’d do it. My dr thought my baby had a hypoplastic (short) or completely missing nasal bone which is the strongest marker for Down syndrome that there is, so she called for a follow up ultrasound. That made me wish I would have gone for the blood testing beforehand. But everything did turn out okay so thank god! Hopefully the same goes for you. I know how stressful it can be!!

There’s a lot of missing info that is probably needed before anyone can give a reasonable opinion.  Did you already have blood work done that came back with a higher probability of tri 18?  In depth sonograms can be done as part of genetic testing but it often is done in tangent with a blood test because alone they aren’t usually adequate.  Your options for genetic testing heavily depends on how far along you are .... so how many weeks are you?   Amniocentesis have been safer in recent years than they used to be because doctors use sonograms to ensure they are going into the correct place but there is still a small risk of miscarriage.

How much does it matter to you that your baby may have a lifelong disability? If you will continue the pregnancy no matter what, then I think the answer is clear (don’t get it) and you can still be informed and prepare your life and theirs before delivery. If you think you may not continue the pregnancy then it’s good to know now. Personally if it were me I would do it, the risks are low for miscarriage. Sending good thoughts your way.

Had an apt with my gyn  today my last report they found that I don’t have trisomy 18 everything is normal baby growing normally heart beat of baby is normal thank goodness just gots be careful because I have high chance of diabetes ugh 😑 but thank god 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼I’m so worried for today reply from the doc I couldn’t and didn’t sleep now I can relax and just have to be careful of what I eat

What indicators made the doctor tell you that? I was in a similar situation, but my baby had a lot of issues. Trisomy 18 was one of many possible reasons for the development issues. I didn’t do amniocentesis, but they did a non invasive blood test that sorts through the chromosomes. Panorama and verify are some of the names of that kind of test. Maybe ask if they would do that if you aren’t comfortable with the amniocentesis.

If I were you I’d opt out. Though they say the risk to miscarry after the procedure is very slim, still there is that slim chance. If you think the result won’t determine whether you will keep the baby or no, don’t do it. I know decisions like this are not easy. Good Luck!!
