Why do I bother telling people baby names

Question

I remember now from when last time I was pregnant and picking out baby names the comments people make about what I have chosen. So why do I bother even telling people this time? I should have learnt my lesson 🤦‍♀️ it just makes me second guess what I have picked out and I get upset about it when people make rude comments or stick up their nose.

This is why I keep my baby’s name a secret. I just don’t understand how people even think they can have an opinion on other people’s baby’s names. I already got smart with my mom for saying she didnt like a name I was just thinking of

We aren't telling anyone for this reason. When people ask about her name we just tell them we have a few ideas but we are waiting to meet her in person before making a final decision. Most people respect that and move on. A few have pushed to know the options, suggested options, or told us what to not use. When my hubby's cousin told us not to name her "Margaret" or "Suzanne", I looked at him with a thoughtful face and sad "Babe, I hadn't considered those names. What do you think about Suzanne Margaret?" "I like it- let's add it to the list of options." We went on to a different topic and no one in the family had said anything else about names. :)

The only person that has been negative about our daughter’s name is my mother. As soon as I told her what we were naming her the first thing she said was “I hate that name” my response was “well, it’s a good thing I don’t care.” She hasn’t said another word to me about it. I know she has told everyone else in the family that she hates it, and if they agree with her they have t said anything to me about it.

I’m struggling with this too. This is our first and we don’t know gender. We’ve had a girls name picked out since before we were even pregnant and I was so confident in that name that I’ve told people, no big deal cuz I love it and even if they didn’t I’d be fine with it. But I’ve had the strongest feeling we’re having a boy and can’t come up with a name. I’ve been bouncing ideas off my mom for weeks now and she def gives her opinion when she doesn’t like one. Well my husband came up with a name like 2 nights ago and I think i love it. But I’m scared to tell my mom in fear she’ll hate it and then it will mess with my head and make me second guess myself

It don’t make me second guess. I could care less what others think. People can be so rude so I hit them with a taste of their own rudeness. 🤷🏽‍♀️

When someone asks I say... I will tell you but there is only one response that's appropriate. A positive one. If they agree. I tell them.

The only person who dislikes my baby’s name is my dad. But he’s also super super picky about names and it was a fight to get him to agree on my sister and I’s names when we were born lol everyone else tells me her name is beautiful and they love it. The only other issue I have is my husbands younger siblings (he comes from a very but family so they range from age 28 to 9) insist on shortening her name and giving her stupid nicknames I can’t stand. No one else gives her nicknames. Just them. It kills me 😐 her name will be Eliana Lynn

It’s funny how I used to see comments like your and be like: I am so lucky, I said my baby same really early on and haven’t heard anything bad yet. But... then... yesterday I heard a comment about my own name!!!! Like college from work over the phone asked if my mom was under the influence when she gave me MY name! Like, WTF? Why would you say that to someone ? Why why? Now I completely see others doing it about my baby’s name too. Btw... my name is Luna and I absolutely love it!

People feel the need to air their opinions on everything. With my first I didn’t let anyone know our name until he was born. This time I’ve been a little less restrictive and I’ve had comments. If you are happy with your choice then it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.
