How do you handle your kids interrupting you?

Omg. My daughters interrupt my husband and I EVERY TIME we try to talk to each other or to other people. They’re both under 5 years old but still. How do you guys teach your kids not to interrupt or talk over people? It’s so frustrating because my husband and I can’t have a conversation when they are awake hahaha

I heard of a strategy for this that I plan to is with my boys when they are old enough. You teach the child to place their hand on your wrist to signal they have something to say (without verbally interrupting at all) and the adult acknowledges them by placing their other hand on top of the child’s hand (so they know you aren’t ignoring them, it just isn’t their turn to talk yet). Then as soon as their is an appropriate break in the conversation you ask the child what they wanted to say.

I say “hold on” or just ignore them if what I’m saying is quick. lol. Then after I ask her to wait until we’re done talking to ask us something but if there’s an emergency, you should say excuse me.

It helps to have a sign - like hold up your pointer finger as to say “1 minute”.  Then tell the kids “We don’t interrupt.  When I hold my hand up like this it means I hear you, but you have to wait.”
It takes a long time and lots of practice to get them to stop interrupting....but kids don’t have a lot of control over impulses until they are older...so it is part developmental.

I tell them wait until I’m done. I even hold up my finger. They learned when I hold my finger up it means stfu. If they keep bugging me I ignore them but there’s even times I’ve had to raise my voice & say “Shut up & wait. You’re not gonna die” or “this is NOT YOUR CONCERN”.

For my son I say “wait a minute” then I just ignore him if he continues (he’s 2 & doesn’t understand that excuse me can be used even when he isn’t trying to pass by). My niece (4 y/o) always gets ignored because she knows how to appropriately use “excuse me” and just doesn’t, so I never give the courtesy of telling her to wait.

We just ignore them, then we move to another room. If they don't stop, we tell them it's not their turn, mommy and daddy are talking. And we tell them they have to wait.
My oldest is a tween and she now feels her opinion matters in adult decisions. We ignore her when she butts in and just keep talking and if she continues we say "Honey, if we wanted you to be a part of this conversation we would have asked you to be. This is an adult conversation and we will make the decisions for everyone" that usually gets the point across.

Depending on age id say to them.mommy and daddy are talking please wait. Then continue my.conversation and ignore the child until i was done. Thats obviously for an older child. Id also talk to them and explain when people are tlaking we wait our turn to talk
