Dealing with iud cramps

Since getting my iud put in last October I have had terrible unbearable cramps that are awful during my period and painkillers don't help. And still happen a few times throughout the month. I had it checked and its in the right place. And was told I have to let it settle. But the cramps haven't gotten any better

Any tips for handling them? Any way to get them to go away?
