To me, love is a choice and being in love is a feeling.
Being in love is the chemistry, the emotion, the giggles, the butterflies when you think about him, etc. It comes and goes. Most people don't feel "in-love" when in the middle of an argument or when things get rough. It glazes over the other person's flaws. It comes and goes and it's possible to feel with many people. Like any other emotion, it can be swayed by thought, other emotions, and other people.
When you truly love someone, it is completely selfless. You care more about them and their happiness than you care about yourself. It's what gets you through the arguments and the rough times. It's when you see the flaws, but overlook them. It makes you kind, understanding, and patient. It's the reason you aren't tempted by other people, because you're no longer thinking about your own selfish needs, but about your partner's needs.

While I believe in chemistry, I believe that love is more about action than a feeling. Love is giving trust, respect, caring for the other person's needs etc opposed to being swept away (which is lust, not love)
