How long do you let your toddler cry before you go in and console them?

Question

My toddler doesn't want to sleep in his room.  Especially if I put him to bed.  My SO thinks its because I baby him too much.  I just dont want him him to think I'm not around. I'll go in his room, after 15 minutes, tell him to go to sleep and close the door.  Ill do this 2 to 3 times.  Then i just take him to our bed.... I know its bad, but I also have to sleep. My SO is a RN and works nights, so normally when this happens, hes not home. 
What do you do? Please any advise is appreciated 💙

My twins boys are 2 yrs old...they started sleeping in their own room at 1 and a half.. they would wake up after sleeping a few hrs crying and run to my room and u would let them sleep with me the remainder of the night.. eventually I got tired of that and decided to keep the baby gate in their rm so they can't get out..so then they would wake up cry for a fee minutes then go back to sleep..once they realized I'm not coming to get them they stopped crying..So to answer your question once it's bed time I do not into there room at at to console them (yes I listen out for them and I can tell between a whinning cry and a "something's really wrong cry" I leave them in their room until the sun comes up.Now at 2 they sleep all night with no problem

My daughter has been going through a phase that’s somewhat similar. I would go in, do her normal bedtime routine and the minute I stand up to leave - she comes running at the door screaming and hitting the door yelling “let me out.” 
It’s absolutely gut wrenching 😔 I would try to let her cry it out in 10-15 increments. If it was a consistent cry, I would go in and soothe her by rubbing her back or singing to her.
I think we’re coming to the tail end of it, but she now wakes up almost at least once every night crying. Mind you, she’s been sleeping in her own room since 6 months and has been regularly sleeping through the night on her own since like, 3 months. So this was all very confusing for us.
She rarely gives my husband a problem though.. so, there may be some truth to what your husband said because I thought the same thing about me. But! I think it’s just because they’re more comfortable with their mama and don’t want that sense of safety/comfort to go away.

I feel you on this. My daughter has always been a great sleeper and easy to soothe. We are on night 3 of long stretches of crying and screaming in the middle of the night. I am currently (it’s 1am) trying the strategy of sitting in her room so she knows she’s not alone but not interacting with her. It’s brutal. I hope it works 🤞🏻

My lil boy started this too. i used to go to him after 15 mins then he started to do it cause he knew i would take him ti my bed. I now leave him for about 20 to 25 mins as iv found he eventually gives up and goes back to bed himself and straight to sleep.

My son, thankfully, has been sleeping through the night in his own crib and room since about 7 months old. He very rarely wakes up. So, if he does cry out, I know something is off and I go to him pretty much right away.

I don't think letting him sleep with you is bad, but it's not for everyone. Our son sleeps with us, but for the most part he always has. He's never slept through the night, so if I didn't then I would never get any sleep.

He is going to keep doing it and he will get worse because you give in. Have you tried just sitting in his room and waiting for him to sleep (not holding him)

Two year olds know how to manipulate you- my daughter constantly tries to distract me from the bedtime routine, and she totally knows what she is doing. You just have to set boundaries and enforce them.
