Can I ask a dumb question? 😕

I’ve read on here and heard from friends about milk not coming in from anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks. What does that actually mean? How does it work if you are trying to breastfeed but have no milk? Clearly mamas aren’t starving their bubbas but I don’t understand how this works! Sorry if this is a dumb question but I’m pregnant with my first and would like to know so I’m informed when the time comes! 😊

Milk “coming in” is when your colostrum changes to transition and then mature milk

Colostrum first then milk usually around day 3-4. Their stomach is so small that colostrum does the trick usually.

This just happened with me. This was my second pregnancy and I had milk right away with my first. I was told that DD would be ok and the colostrum would be enough. I was still very worried and asked every nurse and dr that came in my room about it. She was fine. She did lose more weight then my first but my milk came in after three days and she is currently 16 weeks old and 14 lbs! 
My advice is not to worry about it. If it takes a few days to come in monitor baby's weight. If they lose a certain percentage of their body weight is when you may need to supplement (all baby's lose some weight, so that's ok). 
But there is nothing you can do to force your milk to come in. The pediatrician will monitor weight or your hospital may offer a weigh station if you need it.
