What does a lot of follicles mean ??

So I was recently diagnosed with pcos so my obgyn ordered an ultrasound pelvic and transvaginal , when I called for my results the nurse told me everything looked good but I had a bunch of follicles on my ovaries. She also said the doctor would be calling me in 1-3 to throughly discus the results and set up a follow up if needed as they just got my scans & results faxed from the hospital it was done at . The ultrasound took place on the last day of my period I was just spotting is it normal to have lots of follicles then ?? I’m still learning about pcos and all this medical stuff every day so any advice is appreciated to calm my nerves 👌💕
