Spend NYE at my "In-Laws" my parents were invited too. We did come about 45min later (I told my parents we'll go later since I know it would be too early otherwise and because of my work) and they had already eaten. It was just soup and a couple of snacks throughout the evening. Knowing my family we are use to a big feast. So today my mother told me that especially my dad was mad because not only didn't they wait for us but there lacked conversation, no one drank and the whole evening was a drag. They felt disrespected by them for not being a good host. She has told me to never consider inviting them to my in-laws again.

I do have to say the evening was a complete fail as it was boring, no real dinner or real party mood. For my liking I would have preferred to work than go through that.

I did have a big argument with my mom about this since I said it has nothing to do with respect for them but maybe that's all they know.

I'm quiet down right now because of this rift, I just think that my parents are taking this a bit over the top.
