Delay cord clamping or no?

I’ve been looking into delay core clamping but would like to hear input from other moms who have done it. I’m 29w and would like to know your experiences!

If your hospital doesn’t do this automatically you should find a new one that’s up to date on the the guidelines from who.

Yes!! Incredible benefits and if baby has breathing troubles they’ll still be receiving oxygen through you for a few minutes until it’s cut. Great thing to do until baby is accessed! Also you can request baby’s blood be drown from the cord instead of pricking baby for testing!

To my understanding, the only real reason NOT to do delayed clamping is if you're planning on banking the cord blood (which is great, if that's what you want! The uses are skyrocketing!). But the biggest advantage is the extra stem cells your baby gets, and except in cases of EXTREMELY delayed clamping, there are no negatives.

It's pretty much standard practice now. My hospital automatically delays cord clamping unless you are banking the cord blood.

Same here! My doc says routine is only 30-40 seconds so I’ll have to talk to him again about it at my next appointment cause I’d like to do it for 3-5 mins :/

I never decided to do it or not to do it. Never even discussed it with my doctor. But my son was born 10 weeks early in an emergency Csection so they basically did whatever they wanted to get him safe and notified me later. In the chaos of it all they did delay clamping by 1 minute. I later asked her why since they were in such a rush to get him to the NICU and she told me that it’s extremely beneficial to babies, especially preemies so she ALWAYS does it unless the parent asks not to or the baby isn’t breathing 🤷🏼‍♀️

yes! I'm waiting until my placenta comes out on it's own for the cord to be snipped. my baby needs all his blood.

It’s seems that there are many benefits to delayed cord clamping and it would be beneficial in most cases. We had wanted to but were not able to do delayed cord clamping because I had gestational diabetes and the doctor said it could cause problems for baby’s blood sugar.
