How soon can you use a nipple shield ?

I am 2 days post partum and want to start using nipple shields.

I stared 3 days pp (lactation consultant at her pediatrician helped me) and weaned her off at 3 weeks. They completely saved me!

I started using them around 3-4 weeks pp as I literally couldn't take the pain from blisters and my nipples wouldn't harden up quick. Plus I've fibromyalgia and the nerves around boobs hurts like hell so I bought shields and it was like an instant relief. My LO can go from shield, breast, bottle and pacifier. You dont need to go by a lactation consultant.... we dont in the UK. Just read the instructions and you can look on YouTube for tips on using them. Also you can YouTube on how to get a proper latch too, I found those videos more helpful than any consultant. If you feel you need help then buy them. Every few days take it off and try feeding without, if still sore put it back on and try again in a few days. Good luck mama! Breastfeeding at the start is sooo hard.

Nipple shields are a tool generally meant for short term use, and aren't for everybody.  Talk to a lactation consultant before starting with them
