8 month old crawling?

Is anyone else’s 8 month old not crawling? People keep asking me if he is and when I say he isn’t they say “oh you really need to make him start crawling!” Okay because I can make him 🙄🙄🙄

There’s a lot of posts in the boards right now about milestones and delay and such.  Milestone guidelines are very very very flexible.  When our son was born and I asked my ped about first milestones to expect, he told me to stop caring about guidelines and start caring about progress.  Is the child showing progress in areas?  Are there attempts at new skills?  If they’re not working on one thing, are they working on another?  Some kids are very focused on mental development, some on social and language, some on physical.  Some may take and master one skill at a time as others try everything at once (an early view into their personality!).  He specifically said to look at the whole infant and not any one part or “skill.”  There is no race to a milestone and no one is going to be declared the winner (though many parents think otherwise - an early view into their parenting personality too!).  True deficits become apparent in time measured in months and sometimes years, not minutes, days or weeks.  Go to your appointments and certainly let the doctors know what’s going on but for the most part just enjoy the kid, give them every opportunity to play and socialize and listen and babble, and know that he or she is truly one of a kind and will do things in his or her own way.

Not crawling, and I'm sick of people being obsessed with my daughter's milestones. She's healthy, happy and energetic, she just has no interest in crawling.  As my husband says 'you don't meet a lot of adults who never figured out how to sleep, eat, walk and talk.' Why do we spend so much energy worrying over this total non-issue?!

Nope, not yet. No teeth either. And she just learned how to roll from belly to back about a month ago. Our Ped isn't worried, so neither am I. I've learned to just say "nope not yet" and walk away when people ask. I know they're just trying to be nice and ask about her, but their judgements get old...

My LO is 7 months but 😂 there is no way she will be crawling in the next month! She is just beginning to roll from back to belly and has no interest in being on her belly. Try not to compare your baby to others! Your pediatrician will let you know when you need to be concerned 😊

Well... mine goes backward. Not purposefully lol. She rocks on hands and knees and somehow pushes backwards

Nope!!! My daughter is developing and learning new skills all the time, but she has absolutely no interest in being on her tummy to even learn how to crawl. We thought about a month ago she was going to try, but it didn’t happen and that’s ok with me!!!

Mine just started this past week... like the day he turned 8 months. Before that for a few weeks he was pushing backwards. But you know what he doesn't do...sit. This boy has no desire to sit. He will for a bit between our legs but then he rolls to his belly. I worry because my friends babies who are younger are rocking the sit. But babies are differnt. He will figure out it and so will yours.

mine isn’t either she turns 8 months on the 18th and not a crawl yet looks like she wants too but like shes scared she gets into crawling position but then stops and rolls over everyone asks me the same thing too and its annoying my friends baby has been crawling for a long time and shes a week older then my daughter..studies say that theres babies that crawl first and then walks and theres babies that skip the crawling and goes start to walking some might even crawl for a month and less and walks so idk how our kids will be

My 8 month old crawls but doesn’t do it with any consistency. He’s got this crawl, sit up, & scoot deal that he does to get around. I have a friend whose baby didn’t crawl until after they were a year old. I also know people whose babies didn’t crawl until after their younger sibling did. Every baby is different & as long as you & your pediatrician aren’t noticing anything alarming, your baby will figure it out eventually.
