When can you use blankets

Question

At what point can you start using blankets at nights for kids? I mean obviously when you transition to a regular bed but I want to keep my daughter in her crib until she starts climbing out or gets too big. So at what point is it safe to use blankets?

I’ve done it since birth. I pull it only up to his tummy area and tuck it around him. He is 3 weeks now and doesn’t move around much and so far never had any issue with the blanket getting anywhere near his face. If he gets older and it starts becoming an issue then I’ll take it away

I felt comfortable at 1 year old. That was also the age where if the blankets fell off he knew to grab them and pull them back up

Both of my girls have used a blanket from early on. Most will say it’s not safe though and to wait at least a year.

My son had to have his blanket since newborn. Around a month he started to cover his face but I would take it away. And put the blanket by his feet.

It is Recommended that there is nothing in the crib with baby until after 1 year of age due to the risk of sids and possible suffocation. My son is 15 months and just started sleeping with a thin Muslim style blanket at night. If your worried about baby being cold at night you can use a sleep sac (wearable blanket) to keep them warm without risk.

Babies should have absolutely nothing in their crib when they sleep.

We give our 10 month old a blanket occasionally. It’s usually just one of those really thin ones
