I’ve noticed a bunch of news floating around about the Donald trump administration working with the DEA and ICE to place surveillance cameras in street lights to try to catch immigrants. Personally I believe that government surveillance violates the Fourth Amendment, which prohibits unreasonable search and seizures. what are your thoughts?

How is our society to balance personal liberty and personal privacy? Can we feel free to fully express ourselves while knowing that our privacy is possibly being breached? If the government’s position is to watch for possible illegal actions, and particularly, threats of violence, rather than to monitor all communicated thoughts and actions, then what have the innocent to lose? And what happens if we begin to err on the side of privacy and this precipitates another 9/11 attack, or worse? There are no easy answers to these questions, and this makes for a subject that is not only controversial but also quite fascinating.
