How does anyone balance pumping with a new born?

I had a grumpy 20 day old (preemie month early) who was crying most of the day yesterday and the only way I could ease her distress was to hold her. 
I was unable to pump all day and now I’ve finally sat down to. How can I balance pumping along with her care and my own?

I don’t pump exclusively, but when I have pumped around my son, I lay a boppy in my lap and place him in it. He feels close to me and usually calms down. I also use a hands free bra and you can do one side at a time if you absolutely need to hold the baby.

I put baby in a bouncy seat next to me and sit on the floor next to them. Baby can look at me and I can entertain while I pump. I'd see if baby would be ok w that. I've laid baby in my lap while sitting cross legged and used a hands free bra and pumped. It actually helped milk flow faster w baby right there.

I would recommend a hands free pumping bra. I’m able to pump and hold baby while wearing one.

Ugh! I wish I had suggestions but I don’t and unfortunately am going through the same thing still (my son is 2 months old) and my supply has decreased so so so so much that I have to supplement! It’s breaking me honestly!! 
The only thing I can possibly suggest is pump as much as you can when baby is sleeping. Maybe shorten the amount of times you pump during the day but add length onto the times you do pump, if that makes sense
