This has never happened to me. However I don’t expect anything at someone’s home. I won’t die of thirst if I have to wait a few hours

No because I drink sparkling water (Pellegrino) and most of the houses don’t have that water.

I always bring a bottle of water with me, so no. I'd be concerned for them, though.
