How does an OPK work?

Unfortunately my kit cane with vague photos and no instructions. This was five minutes after dipping. I don’t even have a control line. Did I do something wrong or are my sticks defective?

If you don’t have a control line, it’s faulty.
You dip the top inch (with the waves there) in urine. My brand says about 10sec, but check your box. Then you wait like 5min (or more). Don’t test with morning urine, as that can be too concentrated. Your testline should be darker than the controle line. 12-36h after a positive, you will ovulate.

I use a different brand, but mine I dip in urine for 3-5 seconds. 5 minutes could have washed away the dye, or this stick is faulty
