Birth Certificate HELP! 😰

I’m kinda stressed about this situation. If you guys could help me out by giving me your opinion on this whole thing...

I am expecting a baby with my boyfriend and he’s there for the baby right now but I get this feeling he is not gonna be around forever. My dilema is the last name I will give my child. I talked to my boyfriend and he said he is ok with the baby having only my last name (because he doesn’t need his last name on a paper to state he is the dad) but he would be happy if he did have his last name.

Now I’m not being selfish here I’m just deciding if I want his last name on the BC because of many reasons such as:

What if he one days decides to get up and leave us and I need to get a passport or something legal that needs both of us to sign and I can’t get a hold of him or he doesn’t want to sign anything?

Does anyone know of things that would require him to be there as well to sign??? (To where I definitely need him around)

Ex: School, ID, Passport, Church stuff, etc...

Also can someone tell me the benefits of a hyphenated last name? The benefits of me putting my last name 1st then his at the end (not hyphenated)??
