Is it safe for a newborn to sleep in a Pack N Play?

Expecting a baby girl in May, was planning on just getting a crib but i’ve noticed a lot of my friends who have had babies or are having babies just got a pack n play and their babies slept in that. Is this safe? I’m just worried about SIDS.

My first slept in the raised bassinet portion until he reached the weight limit and then we switched to the crib. We will do the same with baby 2 that is due in July. The pack and play fits between our bed and the wall so it made it really easy to nurse baby at night and have baby next to me but not in my bed.

It's absolutely safe. Educate yourself on SIDS and safe sleep. They need a firm, flat surface. A pack n play is like a crib. It's a firm, flat surface. Our daughter slept in hers from 0-6 months and then we moved her to her crib from there.

This is the one we just bought. It has the change table, bassinet and there is an insert so that the bottom isn’t all the way down for infants as well

It’s safe as longest you take your precaution... sleeping alone with just warmly clothes and no covers... baby will move and as tired as you will be you won’t hear the baby and he/she might get the cover on his/her face.... I had a pack and play for my first one and the second I got a crib.... No co sleeping since he was 3 months.....

My daughter hated the pack and play... I’d get both since pack and plays can be used for other things and when traveling. But I would definitely get the crib.

My dd1 used her pack and play napper until she started rolling, then we used the bassinet portion. 
Now with dd2 we have bought the same one, and my dd1 is trying out her toys in it 😂😂

Congratulations! So the criteria for a safe sleep space for a baby requires that it be flat and as sparse as possible, ideally just a fitted sheet and no blankets or pillows. So as long as the space in the playpen is flat and there isn’t anything bulky or soft around her, she should be fine.

If anytjing the pack and play is better.  The mattress is quite from and flat.  My son used one for about 2 months and the he got a crib.

My daughter has been in the pack and play exclusively when she’s not lying with me. I bought one that had the raised levels for younger babies.

Yes it’s safe, but make sure to by inserts or whatever to make it comfy. My LO didn’t sleep in it at all, I didn’t realize you could buy newborn accessories for added comfort.
