I think I'm in peri-menopause

Ladies...this period has been a bitch. I've been bleeding for 9 days now. It started, stopped for 1/2 a day, restarted. Extreme cramping for a couple days (so much so I had to call off work) and horrible, huge clots. Anyone experienced this later on near their 40s?
