Truckers
My dad got me thinking yesterday he just recently retired and he says he does not miss the traffic at all. Our conversation continued and we talked about how the vast majority of people don’t know how to behave around big rigs/18 wheelers. (Example: you CANNOT stop suddenly in front of a semi. They are in excess of 80,000lbs sometimes the weight is live weight or liquid weight both of which are much harder to stop).
A light bulb went off above my head. This isn’t a problem of people being aholes it’s a serious lack of education. Most people don’t know better. As soon as I told my dad that I saw a change in his face from irritation to sympathy. People don’t understand and it’s worrisome. I really think there should be more educational programs in place to teach our youth how to safely share the road with semis.
Yes I understand that there are bad truck drivers. There’s bad apples in every bunch, but the majority of the truck drivers just want to get from point A to point B safely. They just want to go home and see their families just like the rest of us.
I also pointed out that people feel too safe in their cars. They are complacent to the dangers they face when they make bad choices. It doesn’t dawn on them what will happen when they collide with 80k lbs. I’ve seen cars flattened and it wasn’t the truckers fault. That’s also why I refuse to drive anymore. I don’t want to take anyone’s life over their bad decision.
