FMLA??

If anyone’s going through FMLA how do you do it? I’m so confused.. does it start when the babies actually born? What doI have to do before sending the paper work in?

I am using FMLA for this maternity leave as well. It seems from everyone's responses it's different for everyone. Mine does not start until the first day I miss work because of a medical reason, whether it be I have the baby or get put on bed rest. My job is covered for a total of 12 weeks however I am only allowed to take what my doctor says is medically necessary. When they filled out the forms they said I'd need 6-8 weeks for recovery so my employer said that's all I can take. I am scheduled for a c section on the 28th so I'll definately meed the full 8 and may request my dr extend it to 10 weeks. My company will pay me 50% of my pay while I am out.

Fmla starts the when your hours decrease or you quit working. So for instance I was full time at my job and dropped down to part time so my fmla kicked in to hold my full time status at my job and it deducts hours your missing so I was 40 hours a week and dropped to 20 hours so my fmla kicked in and used 20 hours each week to protect my job! This is at least how my company did it maybe others are different I don’t know I’m no expert tho!!

Talk to HR. Most companies run it through a 3rd party that manages everything. You need to make the claim 30 days in advance of your due date.

It's super confusing so don't feel bad if it's not making sense.  It took me forever to figure it out.  Anyway it protects your job for 12 weeks.  It starts when you decide that you want to take leave.  It's unpaid if you don't have any sick or vacation days built up.  That's how it was explained to me.  I had to have a meeting with HR to figure it out.  It was way too confusing.

I did it when I was working FT when my son was born- you need to ask your HR for the paperwork and take it to your drs office to fill out. My drs office took 2 weeks to fill out the paperwork, once it’s all complete it should allow you to take up to 12 weeks off, but you can decide how much you want off. My job only paid me short term disability for the first 6 weeks and the last 6 weeks was unpaid.

Talk to your HR department. Mine had the doctor mail my paperwork directly since my  employer’s headquarter is in a different city. My employer let me choose when I’m starting leave and how many of the 12 weeks I’m taking.
