The problem really lies in...you can’t be certain where the STD originated if you’ve both been sexually active in the past. Unfortunately, you can try to track back, but like someone else mentioned, they can lie dormant for years. 
This is why I stress abstinence to young men and women. It’s the only way to avoid STD’s, some of which can cause infertility. They’re no joke. I have had HPV and my husband has had genital warts. It’s all fun and games until someone contracts a STD. 😓 If I could go back, I would have waited to have sex until marriage. Hindsight is 20/20. 😬

I meant to hit no. Some stds can be dormant for years. I would have a talk with him to make sure nothing else was going on and make sure we both got treated.
