Does anyone’s cat have feline herpes?

If so, can you tell me how it affects their life? Is there any permanent effects your cat has experienced? Like eye damage?

My kitty had feline herpes. He was just fine. We gave him L-Lysine treats and gave him his prescription antiviral when he needed it.
He would have flares when he got extremely stressed out, lots of snot and he sneezed 10x more than other cats but he was healthy and amazing. 💕

My cat had it. We had her for ten years and zero issues after the first initial medications. We had to put stuff on her eyes and some medication she had to swallow. After that run, she was never affected. I know they say if they’re stressed it can resurface but we had moved at least six times, got married, had a kid, added another cat, added a dog, and she was a very nervous cat to begin with but never had it resurface.

All 4 of mine have it, and not all of them have issues with it... and their issues are all different. It usually affects the eyes and nose, so some cats get puffy itchy eyes, some get congested and sneezy, or any combination of those things. I’ve only seen eye damage if the cat had it severely as a young kitten. Vomiting, thin hair coat, and scabs on the skin that someone else mentioned are likely a separate issue, unrelated to herpesvirus. Lysine supplements do help some cats, I have all of mine on them, and I’ve noticed different responses for each cat. If it gets bad enough that you think your cat is too uncomfortable, your vet can prescribe some temporary eye medication or sometimes oral antibiotics if there is a bacterial infection along with the herpes flare-up. But otherwise, as long as they’re otherwise happy and healthy, they can live long full lives!!

My mom's cat has it. Sometimes when he has an outbreak he has throws up alot (might be a separate issue) but his hair gets thin an he has little scabs all over, mostly on his back. They heal and his hair grows back and hes back to normal for a while.
