When did you give your baby a pacifier?

I am strictly nursing (until I return to work, then I will be pumping/bottle feeding at the end of March) - my little one had no issues latching or anything, my Lactation nurse in the hospital was quite surprised. When should I introduce a pacifier? I have a pacifier just for newborns but I also don’t want to confuse her. Thoughts?

I’m breastfeeding, breastfed my first too. I gave them the soothie pacifiers right away and had no issues. Took them away from my first at 4 months when she popped her first tooth and didn’t deal with any of the screaming and crying fits either. I only used them sparingly with her and am doing the same with this baby, basically only at night.

When you desperately need it. With my first I don’t want to give her a pacifier until one night she wouldn’t stop crying and then we gave it to her. The peaceful silence! I breastfed her until 20 months, she is currently 23 months amdstilluses pacifier for sleep and when she is really upset she asks for it.

Thanks everyone! My hubby thinks I should wait another week or two (thanks Google 😒) but I’ve been introducing my little one to her pacifier and she seems to be doing okay with it and still nursing. I am going to introduce her to a bottle within the next few weeks. I love breastfeeding but my nipples are killing me, and that way my hubby can help with feedings at night and I can finally sleep somewhat! I swear I’m up every hour!

Strictly breastfeeding for now and gave my baby one when she was a week old old and haven’t had an issue! She uses it to calm down and then spits it out on her own.

With my first I gave a bottle within the first week or 2 (breastmilk as I was strictly nursing) and a paci. He has no issues at all going back a forth. 
With my second I waiting for like 8 weeks to give a bottle/paci and she refused the bottle- it was awful. I had to get her to take a bottle so I could go back to work.
With this Baby I just had him Thursday and didn’t want to wait long. At day 4 he had a paci and a bottle of breastmilk and has gone back to latching with zero issue.

My little one went to the NICU and was given one same day as birth. Wouldnt have been my first choice but it is what it is 🤷🏼‍♀️

You want to introduce it sooner than March... my son never took a bottle or paci or soppy! I couldn’t leave him. I also had a friend who’s son didn’t eat the entire time she was at work and refused the bottle. Actually, a handful of friends... if you have to leave him I’d be nervous about him refusing it by waiting too long to practice with him.

My LO didn’t really take one until I stopped breastfeeding. Prior to that she didn’t have a need for it.
