Science will obtain the ability transfer or duplicate ones consciousness to another being or computer in our or our children's lifetime? 
Bonus question, do you think that is the start of obtaining immortality? (Think of the movie Selfless)

Not with conservatives/GOP/tories in charge deleting every drop of spending needed towards scientific development.

Will they finally be able to do it? Absolutely. Within our or our children's lifetime? I don't think so.
But then again, I believe science is way more advanced than what they tell us so maybe within the next few decades they'll be doing it but keeping it quiet. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don’t have an understanding for how artificial intelligence works, but there are some incredibly smart people in the world that do. I think it’s possible. We’re able to transplant organs, we’re able to download & store other data and information so I’m sure they’ll be able to figure out how to transfer an individual’s consciousness as well. Which is, really, kinda freaky 😐 and yes, I see that as being immortal. Your body is like a machine and it will break down and stop working. But if you’re able to move your mind into a new body/machine I think that counts as being immortal.

It is a bit controversial but they do debate that certain organs from one person to another - such as the heart, brain, eyes can transfer consciousness and feeling from the previous person.
