Work Politics

Maggie

My department is going through schedule changes right now. I currently work Tues-Sat and have been extremely vocal about wanting to work Mon-Fri. I have established myself as one of the most valuable people working on the team I work on. Schedule changes were offered today to a few select people, ranked based on their production (not including myself).

My position doesnt have trackable production, so I asked my supervisor what that may mean for me and if I would be offered a schedule change. All my supervisor would say was 'I don't know' and 'we will have to wait and see'.

So my impatient self emailed our manager (my supervisor's boss). I asked how these changes might affect me since I don't have trackable throughput but I know I have been performing well.

He forwarded my email to the manager of the team I work for (parallel to my supervisor), who then emailed me stating that he had no idea I was looking to change my work week and said they did value my contributions to the team.

Now I am regretting not copying my supervisor on any of these emails since I went over his head and our work week is a sore point for our whole team. I really want to capitalize on a Mon-Fri work week if I can, but I don't want to be the dick who goes over peoples heads.

Is there a way I can have my cake and eat it too?
