Are you doing ICSI in your IVF cycle?

My husband has great sperm so my doctor said there is no reason to do ICSI. we are unexplained infertility and got pregnant naturally years ago. Insurance covers ICSI. Should I request it? My doctor did say weeks ago that ICSI could cause them to lose eggs cause It takes longer with ICSI than natural fertilization. Since we are unexplained i worry that fertilization is the issue. I would love some advice. This is his analysis report

If you are doing PGS, which I HIGHLY recommend, you have to do ICSI. We were also diagnosed with unexplained infertility. First retriever we had 12 mature eggs and 7 fertilized with ICSI. We had a total of 4 blasts and transferred 1 fresh. It worked and we lost the baby in he second trimester due to chromosomal abnormality. We decided to do PGS on the remained 3 embryos knowing the risks of a second thaw. ALL were normal and I am now pregnant. If we haven’t done ICSI it would be pointless to do PGS later...

We did ISCI and have unexplained infertility. My husband has 0 morphology so it was necessary for us since morph can impact fertilization. I had 9 eggs 6 mature and 4 fertilized. All 4 made it to blast and are frozen. We are waiting for AF to start our first FET! Sending you hugs and baby dust and good luck with whatever you decide!!!!💞💞💞🥰🥰🥰

I would do it! We had unexplained fertility and were never able to conceive naturally. I wanted to know that the sperm were for sure getting in there and then could do their job. I didn’t want any of the mature eggs to go to waste because potentially the sperm couldn’t do their job.

Depends on your age. If <35 years old, studies showed no significant difference between doing icsi and not. My husband has great sperm as well, I have pcos but it was still unexplained. Did traditional ivf, out of 11 eggs retrieved 8 got fertilized but only 2 made it to day 5. My clinic would only implant one. I did a fresh transfer and first one stuck. Other was frozen for later. My doctor tries natural fertilization first and after 10 hrs they will go do icsi if any didn’t fertilize in their own. With that said, we are also doing PGS testing and icsi isn’t required to do that. Our pgs testing happens in day 3 though instead of day 5.

Because we decided to do PGS they automatically did ICSI as well. No male factors that indicated we should but I guess that’s just their protocol.

Also, double check your coverage because usually insurance will cover ICSI if there is medical necessity. For example, on the day of the fertilization there is an issue with the sperm. I thought mine would cover regardless as well, but we had to pay out of pocket because my husband’s sample didn’t fit the criteria to require ICSI

Our doctor says they decide as they are fertilizing if they think they need icsi or not. Not sure how that works but is what we were told. We do not have MFI issues. 🤷‍♀️
