I don't think they mean the person who was dumped. I was in a relationship with this guy for 2 years and he broke up with me and went away to a Jewish event and came back with a girlfriend who was at the same event and she was always at their weekly church meet up. For me, I think this is true

I broke up with my ex and started seeing my current bf with in a week. My reason for ending the other relationship had nothing to do with anyone outside of me and my ex, it had felt like it was over for a while before I actually left but that doesn’t mean there was someone else in the picture, I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t just a lull or phase in the relationship due to distance. It wasn’t. I agreed to meet my now boyfriend for coffee, it was the right thing for me and just because I moved on quickly doesn’t mean the new guy was there the whole time. Sometimes I feel bad about the way it probably looked to my ex but I had no control over the timing of meeting my current bf

It can go either way really. The relationship I was in before my husband went both ways, I convinced him to breakup with me when I realized I was in love with my now husband. So, we got together right away after that ended, but the ex went on a dating website and got a new girlfriend right away as well. It just happens sometimes.
