We are not married but we had a son last year and I’m wondering how we should file our taxes this year. My BF worked all year but he works for his dad and doesn’t have taxes taken out, so I’m not sure how that works for him. I worked about 4 or 5 months out of the whole year at 2 different jobs. He made more money but there is no way for the state to know that since he basically got paid under the table (his dad has his own checks for him to cash)

Would it make more sense for me to claim our son since the state has proof that I worked? Any help is much appreciated as this is my first time doing this with a child and while my BF didn’t pay taxes. Thanks!
