Good idea or bad? For flat headed babies

Okay, so my son is 5 months old and we’ve got a month to see if his head gets any better. It’s flat on the right side of his head(he prefers his right side.)

I can’t get him to nap on his tummy. The doctor suggested putting a rolled up receiving blanket under his right shoulder to encourage his head to fall naturally to the left. It worked! But he sleeps from 8-7 every night. I don’t want to put something like that in his crib while I’m asleep. What if I rolled up a small towel or receiving blanket and literally sewed it to the back/right shoulder of his nighttime sleepers? He wouldn’t be able to get it in his face and it would keep him on his left side all night! Thoughts?
