EXPERIENCED MOMS: What to put in my registry?

Question

I’m a FTM and about to be 30 weeks pregnant. My family is throwing me a baby shower and asked me to make an online registry to put on the invitations. Problem is, I feel overwhelmed by all the stuff they say a mom needs. I know most of it is just marketing and even if they’re gifts I don’t want people wasting money on me/my baby like that. What are some crucial items for a registry?

I used babylist.com and had a great experience. I'd say a baby-wearing option is a must, whether you go for a wrap or carrier. I personally love the ergo baby and use it all the time. You also can't go wrong asking for diapers and wipes, and simple white onesies.

it took me months to finish my registry because of how overwhelming it was ! I put alot of the big stuff on mine like stroller, pack n play, bassinet.
some clothes but not too many because people got those anyways for us. I po ut a play mat, the swing/rock n play. 
also first aid things like thermometer. 
but hkenslty dont forget to put stuff for yourself also for when baby is here, I didnt put anything and I regret it but thankfully my parents friends went out and got it for me anyways lol. good luck! dont let yourself stress to much over it :)

If you register on amazon or target they each have a checklist. And they allow you to check things off that you don’t add. For example, they include ‘nursing gear for mom’ and I didn’t feel comfortable putting that on my registry so I just made a mental note of what I might buy myself and checked it off. Both websites also have pretty good customer reviews that they use to show you recommended items. But I also had friends go off the registry and buy me stuff they really liked with their kids. 
Honestly, most people won’t even use your registry but it’s super helpful to make sure you don’t get duplicates of big stuff and people see your style. Plus after your registry has been active for so many days, they email you a 15% off coupon so you can buy anything else you want/need on there.

I only use it as a checklist. Idc about it otherwise. I get what I get if I need it. (Ftr I never had a baby shower either.) Diapers & bath items are usually my priority.

-Aden and Anais swaddles (we used them for everything!)
-rock and play
-gripe water 
-zipper sleepers
-swing 
-activity play mat thing 
-infant Tylenol, chest rub, saline (eventually they will get sick and it’s so good to be prepared) 
-boppy

Babylist has a bunch of sample registries depending on your priorities. Budget registry, eco friendly, minimalist, stuff like that. 
If you have mom friends maybe ask if they still have theirs active and you can scope theirs out.
