Forceps and with subsequent births?

Question

I have noticed using forceps and suction is a common practice (when needed) here in the UK. This is not the case where I am from in the US and the thought of both frightens me a bit.. I have had 2 babies and now pregnant with my third. Has anyone had these techniques used on a baby that was not your first birth? I would like to think being the third lad down that canal, he’s going to practically walk right out of there unassisted 😂🤞🏼

I had forceps for my first birth because my son just wouldn't come out. My body was not pushing naturally despite the contractions, and any pushing that I was doing did very little apart from tire me out. I asked for more help as nothing was happening. 
They gave me a spinal block and used forceps. They said ventouse would not have worked and were prepping for a c section if the forceps didn't work too. 
I've no idea why this happened but I'm now pregnant with #2 and quite anxious what will happen with the birth. I'm keen to avoid the same happening again!!

I had the ventouse with my first baby as I was tired and the babies heart rate was dropping however I didn’t have an epidural with it or a cut.. it may sound scary but it isn’t and my baby was absolutely fine! ☺️

If it puts your mind at ease you can say no to them if you feel uneasy about them or ask them to talk you through the alternatives at one of your appointments. I’d imagine they’re seen as preferable to a c section in many cases but you should always feel comfortable with what’s being offered

With my first 3 years ago on friday, my daughter got stuck and was very distressed. I was taken up to labour ward very fast, given a needle to numb me from waist down and cut and had a vontouse delivery. It happened so quickly, she was 9lb 2 recovery was fine. Never had it with my second although i was given an epidural and was induced due to having kidney stones. She was a normal birth and slid out lol, as soon as i felt the urge to push it only took 3 pushes to get her out. Had a little graze with her. The midwifes werent prepared she came so quickly. Hoping this time round a fast delivery, with no assistance and no kidney stones! But it usually gets better the more children you have your body knows what to do, thays what my midwife told me anyway.

I’ve never known anyone to have them to be honest. My mom did back in the day like 30 years ago  but not sure how common they are now. 
I think they were more commonly used with an epidural, but like I said not sure how common it is these days.

I believe the statistic for second or subsequent children is 0.5% of needing to have an assisted delivery (forceps ventouse, etc) (but I can double check that for you in the morning in my notes) 
It does also depend on where you give birth. My local birth centre does not do assisted delivery as this needs to be undertaken by a Dr of Obstetrics and not a midwife. If you are giving birth in a labour and delivery ward there is a higher likelihood of being offered an instrumental delivery, just because of the way they practice.

From people I know they are often used for first babies that come super quick. My friend had to deliver at 8cm (premie) and had forceps. My other friend had the same and both of them were where baby’s heart rate had dropped so needed to be helped as they were struggling
