My boyfriend doesn't like dogs

He had an incident when he was younger and got pushed around and hurt.

I've grown up with dogs, and large ones too. There was rarely a time when we didn't have two. I've also always had a cat. I can't really imagine having a place to call mine without pets.

I'm just curious if there's anyway he'd come around to having a dog. This is not a deal breaker for me by any means, but it's just something I'd never thought about before. He said he'd be cool with a cat, which is awesome cause I'm definitely more cat than dog person but I still want both.

Any advice or suggestions? Whether to help him get over his fear of dogs or me with adjusting to not having one?
