Annoying Gym Things

Me

Megan

I wanted to see if anyone could relate to this:

I was on the stair climber and the girl next to me is live-streaming her workout and talking to I guess her “followers”. Essentially she was just recording her boobs bouncing. It was annoying but I dealt with it.

Then she starts to move her phone around and is pointing it directly at me. I was uncomfortable and asked her to not point it at me. She gets rude about it so I go to the desk and ask if there’s any policy about talking and recording videos. The kid says they don’t have anything. I apologize for complaining (because I hate being that person) but she made me feel uneasy and was rude. I leave angry and don’t finish my workout.

What’s your opinion on this? Have you had a similar experience?

I’d push the phone out her damn hand. It’s illegal to photograph or video someone without consent

Obviously someone naked is a different story. She wasn’t talking about anyone naked. You brought up that article and it’s a conoketely different circumstance.

Eh, it could be illegal depending on the state or area that you live in. I know that taking pictures of anyone naked without their consent is illegal so maybe she’s just confused about that or it is actually a law where she is.

Even if the gym had a policy against it, it wouldn’t make it ILLEGAL like this other person is so hell bent on saying. She’s just spouting lies.

I’d ask a manager, the kid at the desk might not know and just said they don’t bc it was easier. But I do remember signing something about recordings when I signed my membership paperwork, but I think it was permission for gym employees to get footage for things like Facebook promotions and we had the option to opt out. That would make me uncomfortable too though, and her reaction was unnecessary.

I think that’s really rude of her to point her camera at you without your consent and then she had the nerve to get rude about it!? Nah fuck that. My gym has a no camera policy to make people more comfortable, if you’re taking photos of yourself they don’t mind so much but not of other people and I think all gyms should have the same policy. It’s so inconsiderate and disrespectful of her to force it on you and then get mad when you politely asked her not to 🙄

I’ve never experienced this before, aside from me getting on a machine behind someone who was recording herself stretching. I didn’t realize I was in her frame until halfway through but it didn’t really bother me. No one I care about will ever see me on her instagram video. However, the fact that this girl was rude towards you about it is definitely gross and I would’ve for sure been irritated about it. That’s just common decency to respect if someone asks you not to record them.

Yeah I totally hear you! She should’ve respected that completely.

I wasn’t even sure if she was recording me. I just asked her not to point her camera at me. I could care less about accidentally being in someone’s shot.

Fuck that. Some last tried to take a secret photo of me when I was in a bad mood one day, and raised my voice at my mom, and I yelled at her.
