What is going on😭
I am at such a loss with our dog.
He’s seven years old and has become a terror when we leave the house. We used to put him in his crate when we left, it was always a good thing for him, he would get a treat and just sleep while we were gone. The last 3 years we have been leaving him out of his cage to roam the house and he was good. We recently bought and moved into a bigger house, when we would leave we would let him roam and he was good at the start, 2 months later he started pulling stuff out of the sink (clean or dirty) getting into the trash (which is in a big, heavy wood box) and just being terrible. The longest he would be home alone is 8 hours and that is at Max, during the work week he is alone for an hour. The last straw is when he pulled my full crockpot (which was pushed alllll the way to the back wall) off the counter and on to the ground. We decided to get him a crate again, we set it up in the living room, blanket and his favorite toy and just left it open, he would occasionally go in there and lay down (okay, this is a good thing, he likes it). The last couple weeks when he goes into the crate he has been moving the crate across my newly wooded floors 😡 and just today I come home to find he moved himself to the couch, pulled a couch cushion into the crate, bending the door and ripping the cushion apart...
I’m not sure what to do, I am at a loss. He gets a treat when he goes in, he runs to to the crate for that; but when we are gone he is a menace. We never use it for punishment. I thought maybe he was anxious being in a new home and be out, so using the crate would be his own personal space.
Obviously I’m not going to give him up or anything by my floors, couch cushions and sanity can’t take it anymore.. anyone have any suggestions?
