Midwife or OBGYN??

And why!? Or pros vs cons. This 1st time mama is already overwhelmed 😅

Oh this really is a huge difference.  Nurse-midwives are nurses first and their training is based in nursing and caring theories, holistic approaches. Identifying you within your system: family, community, generation, etc. 
Ob/GYNs are surgeons. Trained in the medical care of people.  Their primary objective is to identify disease states and make corrective actions. Much of their approach is based on verifying that at each encounter you haven't crossed into that disease state. 
Midwives treat pregnancy and labor as a normal healthy process while keeping an eye for warning signs.  
Doctors treat pregnancy as a condition where all the worst could happen but they're standing by ready to save you.

Midwife all the way! I started with an OBGYN and hated it. They were over the top and uninformative, trying to get to me take tests I wasn’t comfortable with and has a slight chance of miscarriage for only a 0.0001% chance of Down syndrome. Currently pregnant with #2 and will be going with a midwife again if I can get one. They were super informative, gave me all and more facts, to help me come to a comfortable decision based on what I wanted to do. Unlike the doctors telling me stuff to scare me. I have an abnormal shaped uterus and they made it sound like I was super high risk and needed to be in bed, when in reality I saw a specialist through the midwifes and was told I only have a 20% chance of going early compared to the average person with a normal uterus.

I had horrible experiences with hospital OB’s and Midwives! Two different deliveries and they put my babies at risk! I have a homebirthing midwife now! I adore here! She knows her stuff! I delivered my last three at home and will this one as well! Whatever you decide just make sure they listen to you, they work for you, not vice versus!

I have the best of both worlds. I am using a midwife practice out of a hospital. The hospital gave them their own birthing suite and are pretty hands off their practice. But if I need more support, they are also a level 3 NICU and have a full range of specialists. Though I never want to meet any of them, I am comforted to know they’re there.

If there’s high risk and medical conditions I could see including an obgyn. Most other industrialized nations use midwives. I think it’s for a reason. I had one with my first child and it was amazing.

I chose an OBGYN with my first and so glad, because I had complications. This time I’m AMA so absolutely going with an OVGYN again.

I got lucky for my son and went to an OBGYN who had midwives on her team. She ended up doing my delivery and her approach was everything I wanted... Minimal intervention, patient, and encouraged me to get in the tub. The hospital was also very supportive and had a holistic feel. I will be going to her again for my second.

Also midwives care for low risk women.  They have great rates of vaginal deliveries, including vbacs.
