How do you deal with excess/crepey skin after weight loss?

Losing weight is awesome in so many ways! You might get increased energy, boosted confidence, better mobility, etc. But you also might end up with saggy boobs, weird stomach skin and other things that diverge from “classic” American beauty ideals.

I’m 28, I’ve lost 74 lbs and have kept it off for 6 years. I have an amazing boyfriend of 6 years who loves me and I love him. That said, I’m still extremely embarrassed (particularly when we have sex) about my loose crepey stomach skin that hangs down and also my boobs which look like empty wrinkled sacks.

I once mentioned to my bf that maybe after we have kids I would get plastic surgery to tuck my stomach and lift my boobs. He said, “Yeah, when we have the money.” Then I realized that even though he was trying to be supportive, what I really wanted him to say was: No, you’re fine as you are.

So here I am, stuck between wanting to fix my body and wanting to learn to love my body and not go under the knife. I want to feel more confident but I also resent that I let beauty ideals dictate my confidence. Is it okay to get surgery to boost confidence? I’m usually personally opposed to surgical body alterations, but what if it’s just returning your body to what it would’ve been if you hadn’t gained the weight? Is it okay then or is it still molding yourself to unfair beauty standards?
