Should a 18 year old female be allowed to hang out with a 23 year old male if nothing sexual is going on?

I’m sure I’ll get a few mean comments but let me explain. I’m the 18 year old and I met the 23 year old online since I suck at making friends. He has been to my house two times and all of my family has met him. He’s a very nice guy. But I live in my brother in laws house and my mother also lives here. My mother thinks I shouldn’t be allowed to go his house. That he’s to old. But I really don’t understand the issue. She’s met him a couple times even? The literally only issue is his age? I just want to go to his house because last time he was here my family kept being to loud for us to hear our movie that we watched serval feet apart on completely different couches (we have two small ones) and I want to see his roommates kitten. It’s a purely innocent relationship. I just got out of a long term relationship so I ain’t tryna sleep with him or anything. Mom knows that. I just don’t get it. I never hang out with friends since I barely have any nor do I ever get in terrible yet I can’t hang out with him?
