Cloth Diaper tips?!

I’m working on becoming zero waste, I’m starting with the things I think will be easiest and I’ve also had a huge interest in cloth diapers since my daughter was born. But I don’t know where to start. I’m going to use pocket style diapers but other than that I’m clueless. How many do I need? How often do I change her diaper vs the insert? How long do they last? If you use cloth diapers drop any and all tips you’ve got! Thank you!

Try All-In-Ones ! I’m a FTM and they’re so easy . Not at all overwhelming. I got the 6 pack of Alva Baby aio on Amazon to try I out. Now I’m fully committed at 4 months. I’ve got 14 diapers and do a load daily.

I have about 30-40 diapers, both pockets and prefolds. I do laundry about every three days, sometimes every two if she bird through more. I use bamboo inserts and they last longer than microfibre. I bought almost everything used. It’s been very cost effective.
I bought GroVia wipes - three packages. I’ve never run out, it seems about the right amount.
I use a large wetbag in the nursery, no pail. We installed a sprayer in the bathroom for when she starts solids.

The only thing I don’t like about pockets is that they make her bum so big she doesn’t fit a lot of pants properly - we have to go up a size. I think this will be less of an issue as she gets bigger since the diapers are essentially the same size.

If you use pockets then you change the whole thing every time. If you want to reuse covers until they get dirty, then you should go with an inserts+covers system instead.

Fluff University has a lot of tips. With pockets you change the whole thing every time. You do have to change more often than with disposable. I am a bit of a cloth diaper addict do I have probably over 100 diapers 😬 lol you definitely don’t need that many though. It depends on your baby’s age, how many diapers they go through a day, and how often you are doing laundry. I would say at least 20-30 pockets just in case you can’t get laundry done on time. Life happens and I like having extras just in case.
