When to start a bedtime routine?

Hi mommies! My LO is 5 weeks old. I’m wondering when do I need to start a bedtime routine? I go back to work beginning of March so I have plenty of time but just want to know when he will be old enough? TIA !

The day we brought her home we started a routine. Bath, lavender lotion, quiet nursing session in dark/dimly lit room, then bed at 7:00. For night feedings I kept it dark, or put on a night light to change her and nurse. I was quiet and barely talked to make sure nighttime wasn't confused with daytime.

We started one at the 4 month sleep regression. It really helped him through the regression, it lasted less than a week. Now he sleeps 7:30/8pm to 9:30am waking at 12:30 and 6:30. Starting around 7 we do a quick bath, lotion and baby oil with the lights off, nurse then crib. Even if he isn’t asleep when we put him down he falls asleep by himself now.

We put our baby in the bassinet next to our bed for 1st 3 months of life and at 4 months, he transitioned to his crib and has been there ever since.

I do a bedtime routine from early on. I do something very simple so it can be easily replicated wherever we are and by anyone (if I’m sick or we have a babysitter). We change into pajamas, nurse, then down for bed in swaddle or sleep sack. I add in a book as they get older.
