How long for periods to regulate?

I’ve been on nexplanon for about four months, maybe a little longer. The first couple months my periods were basically just 5 days of spotting and that’s it. Now I’m spotting on and off with like minor cramps. My friend is on the iud and said it actually took her 6 months to regulate so i was curious about other people’s experience

Chances are it won’t regulate, because progestin only methods like Nexplanon are most known for causing irregular bleeding/spotting patterns. That can include longer time frames with or without bleeding, random bleeding, or frequent bleeding, at any given time. Some people do get lucky & eventually have a more regulated pattern, but it’s really not typical. I’ve had Nexplanon for 4 years & have had maybe 10-11 periods so far, with occasional brief spotting in between.
