How bad is it?

Ladies, I wanna get the IUD but I’m terrified because I’m hearing it’s painful and although I tolerate pain pretty fine idk how I feel about someone digging inside me like that. Anyone share their experience and rate on a scale from 1-10 how bad it was and has it been worth it so far or are you noticing problems appear more than often? Let me know!! I’m scared!!

I got Kyleena inserted on 1/21,  and it was a 5/10 on the pain scale.  It wasn’t really “pain” but more so just very bad cramping during the insertion.  Cramps are definitely there,  hurt more then usual but nothing a hot pad and meds can’t fix.  The only complaint I have is my husband says he can feel the strings when we have sex and we actually had to stop because it was hurting him.  But hopefully with time that will be fixed because from my research it sounds like the strings soften over time and are not as pokey.  So far happy with my choice!  Started my period (I think) lol and bleeding has been a bit different then normal,  hopefully eventually no period at all!

I got the paragard this past wed. The pain was 12/10 for me. I wouldn't ever wish that on my worse enemy.  I took meds before, ate and had water. I don't regret it all because the recovery afterwards has not been bad, but I was not expecting that pain to be that horrific. I'm still having nightmares about it.

I got the Skyla IUD in November and it was honestly one of the worst pains of my life. I took 800 mg Ibuprofen before my appointment but it was still very painful. After the doctor left the room I was afraid to move for a couple minutes and then I went home. I bled for about two weeks straight, heavily. Now it’s been almost 3 months and the only thing that bothers me are the cramps and spotting. I spot multiple times each week and sometimes they are accompanied by cramps, and these are the worst cramps of my life. I mean crying because midol won’t take the pain away kind of cramps. The only thing that helps me feel better is my heating pad, but the second I take it off my abdomen the pain comes back. My body apparently just hates this foreign object inside of me. The most painful part of having it inserted was the dilation. I’ve never had a child so my cervix had a hard time stretching. ALL of that aside, I do not regret getting the IUD. The peace of mind I have knowing that I’m using the most effective form of birth control is incomparable to the cramps I get every other week. I’m in a committed relationship but we are not trying to conceive so I am really appreciative to have this. The doctor told me that the spotting and pain should subside after the first three months so I’m almost there!

I got my mirena a year ago. Pain was a solid 10/10. I thought I was going to pass out, it was like someone was piercing my cervix. The doctor stopped and offered to do it in hospital under anesthetic so I’d be asleep. (this was free in Australia under Medicare). Was the best thing ever! I don’t tolerate pain at all, and I read heaps of things before getting my mirena, and 9/10 girls said they were totally fine. Just wanted to share my experience, please don’t be frightened though. Everyone feels pain differently.

ABSOLUTELY PREP YOURSELF
•Take pain killers before hand
•Get heating pads
•Drink water
•Wear a pad for afterwards(you’ll bleed)
I’ve had the Copper IUD for a year and a half and I’ve always had bad cramps and heavy periods, the Paragard lets you keep your period but makes them even more intense with more blood and even more cramps...but it’s hormone free and lasts for 12 years so hey! Worth it. 
The procedure was intense, if you’ve had a pelvic exam you kinda know what to expect... with the spread eagle, the measuring, the clamp,....
The insertion was extremely painful for me, it was a 8/10 for me....but it lasted 8seconds. 
But take pain meds regularly, drink water, get a follow up to make sure it didn’t move, and make it a habit to always check your strings and it works like a charm😘

I have mirena, and insertion was probably a 4/10 overall. They say it’s like two big cramps and the doctor tells you when they’re about to happen. They give you a heating pad and if you take some ibuprofen before your appointment you should be fine. I’d say it’s worth it just because it’s birth control you don’t have to think about, though I have had some less than favorable side effects. My period cramps before were manageable but now they’re nearly debilitating and happen up to a week before I start spotting. My periods are also completely random. If I get one at all one month it could last 7 days and be super heavy or it could last 3 and be very light. Other than that my experience has been great and I recommend it.

I just got Mirena inserted and I read a lot of blogs to prep for the pain (took 2 advil before/after and had my heating pad ready to go).
The insertion itself was quick and easy. Pain was 5/10.
The cramps afterwards were the most painful part for me (8/10). It felt like I got punched hard in the gut and I actually threw up twice. But after a day of sitting on the couch with my heating pad and watching movies, I was back to normal. 
My advice - don’t sweat it just be prepared to relax for the rest of the day when you get it. And remember, we’re women we can handle anything. Good luck! 👍🏼

i have liletta and it really wasn’t too bad! I forgot to take ibuprofen but i smoked some weed before i went. It’s more uncomfortable than anything. The worst part of the actual insertion is the two pinches while it’s being put into place. It’s so quick though by the time it hurts it’s over. My cramps were minimal! The whole process took between 5-10 min!

I got a mirena iud almost 3 years ago. 
I didn’t have any pain at all. I felt the doctor clamp my cervix to hold it still and then nothing. I didn’t prep myself before and I didn’t take any pain killers after. I felt totally fine, except I did spot lightly on and off for about a month and then didn’t have periods for a while (also was exclusively breastfeeding) and now I have regular periods.
