Massage ??

Question

My partner booked us a couple massage for later on today . However , I would like to know if it’s safe for me to do so , I’m in my first trimester ( 4weeks ) and there’s mixed reviews online . 
What would you advise ?

I’m a registered massage therapist, in Ontario, the practice is that during the first trimester there is no deep work done on the lower back, and no abdominal work. There are also positioning modifications that your therapist should know: At the end of the day, you giving your consent to get the massage is entirely up to you. I’ve done countless first trimester massages and there actually very healthy for creating increased circulation and oxytocin flow, in return creating a great environment for your new baby. Just make sure the therapist modifies the massage accordingly.

I booked a massage when I was a little over 5 weeks. When I showed up I mentioned it to my masseuse and she turned me away. She said she was sorry, can't do it during 1st trimester but once I hit 2nd trimester I can get all the massages I want. However, I recently had an ultrasound and the tech told me she got massages all throughout her pregnancy and I should probably get a new masseuse lol!

Call the place and ask them their policy, they may not be able to give you a massage if they don't have a therapist available that can do prenatal

They’ll ask if you’re pregnant and some people won’t or aren’t qualified to do prenatal massages. If they don’t ask id still tell them because massages can cause issues when you’re pregnant if they aren’t done correctly

Let them know ahead of time and they may be able to set you up with one of the therapist trained in prenatal. Overall, massage is completely safe during pregnancy, just make sure they have the training.
