Nipples too small to feed? NSFW

Question

So a nurse told me my nipples were too small to breastfeed (which really bummed me out), and told me I’d need to use a nipple cover for a while, but then I told my doula and she was like 🧐🤨: “Um no. Your baby has a short frenulum which is called tongue tie. Your nipples are fine. Get a procedure that cuts his frenulum (completely safe) and you’ll be OK.”
My pic is below. What do y’all think? Either way, the latch HURTS like a bitch. That’s why my nipple is all cracked and reddish. Are my nipples too short to feed?? Also, can you recover from sore cracked bloody nipples and still breastfeed???

Ours are the same and I breastfed my oldest until she was 14 months  and my second until she was 6 months and plan to do this little guy as well. So she can go take suck a dick.

No they’re not small at all I think you should get some nipple cream and maybe take a nursing class to help you learn how to properly breastfeed

She doesn't know anything about breast feeding. Even inverted nips can breastfeed. It's not about the nipple it's about milk production and babys latch. Which both take work but can happen for *most*

I have flat and slightly inverted nipples and breastfeed with a nipple shield. I did breastfeed without the first 2 days without and it hurt like crazy because he had a tongue tie and couldn’t latch properly. I did have them fix his tongue tie but I still use the nipple shield because it’s still easier for him to latch

They're not too small at all! Definately got baby's tongue tie fixed! It made a world of difference for my son and saved my nipples! We got to 17 months breastfeeding.

PLEASE, FOR YOUR NIPPLES... GET THE TONGUE TIE TAKEN CARE OF!!
My son had a lip tie that left my nipples cracked, bruised dark purple, bleeding, and they developed raw sores because of how hard he had to suck due to improper latch (that barely looked different from a proper latch). I didn't know about his lip tie (or that it was the cause of ALL of the breastfeeding problems between the two of us) until he was 2 months old. I only learned about it when the 3rd lactation consultant I saw actually helped me try to figure out what the problem was instead of just watching me latch my son on and basically saying "yeah it looks fine" and sending me on my way. The 3rd lady literally saved a very large amount of my sanity (though I did develop severe postpartum depression - she helped keep it at bay a while longer because I felt some hope about breastfeeding getting better, and that helped keep me going for a good while before I broke down. I'm doing incredible now in comparison - but anyways...)
I got my son's lip tie cut as soon as I could and it IMMEDIATELY made a WORLD of difference!!! It only hurt for the first 2-3 seconds while my nipples stretched into his mouth as he sucked, and then after that... nothing. No pain. I was in shock and I bawled my eyes out and couldn't stop thanking the universe for the 3rd lactation consultant's existence. Because before... there was only misery, pain, and absolutely torturous suffering that I was enduring just to feed my son. I had to psych myself up every single time he had to eat, and I would cry out in pain and rock back and forth and dig my nails into things and I developed horrible anxiety from it.
Oh, and now as a bonus of my whole experience I now have one permanently inverted nipple that I have to physically fold out of itself in order to get it to point out like a normal nipple, and then my other nipple is permanently stuck out "at attention". And they have weirdly shaped scars from the sores which were never allowed to heal, because they were always getting sucked on. After the lip tie was cut it took almost another 2 months to heal. From the beginning of breastfeeding to the time my nipples were fully healed and breastfeeding was actually enjoyable was 79 days. I counted. I cried tears of joy when I no longer had painful feedings and could just stare at my son the whole time instead and enjoy the experience.

Please get the tongue tie cut - it could make all the difference in your nursing experience, and I hope you gained at least something from my comment 😅

No such thing as a small nipple haha That’s ridiculous! You can feed without the shield for sure. 
I had to use lanolin cream on my nipples because they were cracked and bleeding the first few weeks, then it went away and didn’t come back. Just put it on right after you feed. I also used nipple pads to stop it from rubbing on my bra and irritating it more. 
Sometimes you also need to pinch your nipple a bit (sounds weird I know) to make it pointy enough for your baby to find it and latch on easier. I had to do that often the first few months. 
My son has tongue tie and he didn’t have any issues breastfeeding. He’s 11 months and still going strong.

Thank y’all so much for your advice and wisdom!! I was really feeling useless and disappointed. I’ll just go get his tongue tie fixed, get a nipple shield, and go live my life 😁😁😁.
