tips for giving oral medication??
I have had a kitty I found outdoors since October and she’s kinda moody and scratches and bites easily at random times..
well anyways, she has had a skin infection since i’ve found her; it cleared up for about 2 weeks the first time we did a 10 day lasting antibiotic shot and a good diet, but came back. after about a month we tried the same shot again and it didn’t clear it up at all. so today I took her back because she just won’t stop digging at it, and they did a steroid shot, helped clip her nails to prevent her from scratching at her skin, and gave me an oral antibiotic. but even with having help from my boyfriend, she won’t allow us to do administer the meds. i put bite gloves on and held her in the position the vet recommended but she still got away from me.. i don’t feel comfortable scruffing her (holding her by the neck, flipping her over and holding her back feet so she can’t kick) like the vet mentioned we might have to do. she was likely abused and abandoned before i rescued her and don’t want to traumatize her at all by doing something that she may associate with her past.
if you have any tips on how you got your grumpy kitty to take their meds please let me know! if we can’t get her to cooperate we will just go back and do the antibiotic shot again but i don’t want to keep doing the same treatment that doesn’t seem to be affecting her infection adequately!
thanks in advance!
