Okay let’s be real for a sec, do you let you baby hear the tv in the background?

So I have the tv on as background so I don’t go insane in silence. But I was reading how it’s bad to let them hear it in the background. I talk to her all the time when she is awake so she “hearing/seeing words”
Second Question: Am I really doing something damaging that is going to delay her speech development?

My tv is on in the background constantly, and if we are in a room doing something else like putting her clothes away I always have a podcast or music on. I’m home alone 24/7 as my husband works away I would literally go insane if I didn’t have background noise. I talk to her a lot and sing and stuff but not a chance I could stand the sound of only my voice all the time lol

I have always played TV in the background. I have a son who is almost 4 months and loves Happy feet because of all the singing. I have 12 year old and 9 year old who are in the top class in their grades  Aland me playing the TV in the background didn't affect them at all!!!

I wish I was in the 2% here! What are you guys doing to occupy yourself? I try to read but sometimes there just aren’t the hands available for anything not auditory.
I do think that having TV on constantly probably isn’t the best and probably does have some minor detrimental effects longterm, but I have it on for a big part of the day most days. I don’t think the impacts are enormous, and I think they can likely be countered if you make a conscious effort.
Do what you have to to keep your sanity. Having a sane parent will be better for your baby than one who never heard a TV in the background.

Okay I was one of those moms that swore I’d never let my baby watch tv. Boy did that change quick! It’s honestly my sanity sometimes cuz it’s the only distraction she’ll tolerate sometimes if I want to eat, shower, pee etc! Lol. It only holds her attention briefly anyway 🤷🏽‍♀️

My baby doesn’t seem interested in television at all but to make sure she doesn’t get her days and nights mixed up I keep the house bright and loud during the day so there’s always radio/ tv whatever on during the day. I do try to keep the screens off at night because I read it can mess with their sleep (and I’m not tryna take any chances with sleep). I do keep hearing “have you shown her (insert irritating kids tv show here) yet?” And like no I’m not going to have her watch television before it’s a useful tool to bribe her with...

I leave the tv on for background noise so any other noises won’t startle my baby when he is asleep. And I dim the backlight to 0. I think background noise is pretty crucial when it comes to keeping our babies sound asleep.
