What is the biggest misconception of going to an OBGYN?

Idk about misconceptions, but the biggest piece of advice I can give you is to make sure you’re comfortable with whoever you go to! It’s so important because going to the obgyn can be very vulnerable for the patient and feeling like you’re in good trusting hands is a big thing. I had a dr that made me feel like just another patient she was rushing in and out of her office, didn’t take time to ever really engage with me about any of my concerns and she made me feel like any questions I had were stupid so I stopped seeing her. Now I’ve got a wonderful dr and he is very kind and patient with me when I have questions and I can’t imagine using a different dr.  Going to the obgyn can be a little nerve wrecking at first but just make sure to always ask questions if you’re unsure of something, always express your concerns if you have them before anything is decided.

Idk about misconceptions but having a good relationship with my OB has been important. When I first went I scheduled for a pap smear. My doctor was very nice and explained everything she was doing. So I was in like robe or whatever, she inserted a speculum (I didnt think it hurt but it was uncomfortable), she took a few swabs and that was it. Asked if I had any concerns. Later I went back for abdominal pain. We discussed the pain and options. First we switched my BC to see if it helped. Then we decided I should get a colonoscopy first. When that turned up nothing we decided to try a laproscopy to see about endometriosis. I also asked about a mark on my breast at one appointment just to be sure it was nothing. Lastly now Im pregnant so I see my OB every 4 weeks. They check my blood pressure and heart rate, take a urine sample to test and discuss any concerns I have. So definitely reccomend finding an OB you like because they help with a lot of concerns. Never felt awkward. I started going at 19 when I lost my virginity.

Idk about misconceptions either 🤷🏻‍♀️ it might take 2-3 doctors before you find one you like. Before I got pregnant (we had different insurance) my general family practitioner told me it was time to at least meet and OB/GYN since I was approaching 19 almost 20 years old. So I booked to see a women who had decent reviews. 
I ABSOLUTELY HATED HER. 
She was extremely rude, unfriendly, her nursing staff was just as awful as well. I declined to have an STD panel because I just had one done with my general practitioner two months prior. I had a swab, urine, and blood work done. The Dr. then asked me if I had s boyfriend and was sexually active I said yes. She told me “well guys your age have a hard time keeping it in their pants so you can’t say for sure you know he is being faithful to you” 
That bitch was extremely rude. Now let’s go back to when I made the first appointment over the phone... I said I was instructed by my general practitioner to find an OB for a routinely pap here pretty soon. They asked if I was sexually active and on BC, I said yes and No. they had me wait on the line for 25 minutes to for a nurse to tell me how stupid I was and that I’m going to get pregnant. NO ONE respected my decision to not want to be on the pill. I had been on it in the past and it messed with my BG since I’m type 1 diabetic. At the time I was also having issues with my heart murmur and since BC thins blood I was told to not go on it at the time. 
During the actual exam she was so rough and literally opened up my robe to where I was entirely naked all at once. I felt like crying I was shaking. 
I got pregnant and thank god our insurance changed. I made an appointment through an entirely different clinic and I was asked if I cried if the OB was male since all the females had a 2-3 month waitlist. I was a little hesitant, but with me being high risk I went ahead and scheduled an appointment. I am so glad I found my OB, he is GREAT. I love him and his nurse I get so excited to see them!!! He is very gentle, answers all my questions, if I call and leave a message for his nurse she ALWAHS gets back to me 2-3 hours later. When I was referred to Maternal fetal medicine, I told him that the doctor I had see was very rude. So he went out of his way to make sure I was no longer scheduled with the same doctor...I reformed my male OB to EVERYONE. During exams he’s never left my full naked body to be exposed either, I feel 1000x more comfortable with him than I ever did with that bitch I saw once. 
My advice is be open to who you see, I think my doctor is more in tune with me. I know some say that wasn’t a woman since “she has a vagina too” but that doesn’t fly with me. I think with my doctor being male he has an advantage, he knows when my female hormones are overreacting and when things are actually serious.
