Thoughts on god being mentioned in the American pledge of allegiance?

Harper

Since about ninth grade I refused to say the pledge of allegiance everyday in high school because of the words "one nation, under god". Some teachers told me to stand up and say the pledge but didn't do anything else when I continued to remain seated. In my opinion, I feel as though we shouldn't have a pledge of allegiance at all. Sure, America is a great place for the most part, but not all of us are going to stay here forever, so I see no point in pledging our allegiance to the country. Still, if we must have a pledge I think it should be revised considering the diversity of religious throughout the United States. America is thought of as a mixing pot of cultures, and yet we still place some aspects high up on a pedestal and act as though everyone follows that cultural aspect.
