How do I tell my boss I am pregnant?

Question

I got a promotion at work and will now have a new boss at work. I start my new position when I am going to be 11 weeks pregnant not past my first trimester. Should I just wait until she asks or tell her before I start??
I am starting to grow in the belly and will be obvious soon.

I waited until 15 weeks to tell my boss. He was going to fly me out to our CA site (from OH) for a week and I wanted to wait until that was over to tell him, cuz I really wanted to go and not have him think I'm too fragile to travel (anticipated discrimination).
In your case, I'd take the promotion and give yourself a few weeks to really shine in that position before giving your boss a reason to doubt you (assume the worst in people-they will discriminate). 
When are ready to tell your employer, make sure you know your rights. You're technically only telling them because you will need a long leave of absence, so look into FMLA rules, their maternity policy, and state protections. Then go in and clearly state your due date and how much leave you want.

Its no reason to tell them this early if you think they wont recieve it well,  unless you're doing alot of heavy lifting. id only discuss it when i want to talk maternity leave, like mid second trimester.
